Karakan is a for purpose organisation and that purpose and our values guide everything that we do. Originally founded in 1972, Karakan, has a long and rich history of working with individuals whose lives have been impacted by mental illness, in particular ensuring people has access to suitable, affordable housing in the community. Today Karakan has transformed itself and now provides support to people with mental health challenges, disability, or both, working alongside people so that they can focus on what is important to them. A future where everyone is supported, connected and respected is at the heart of everything we believe and is central to our principles and core to our programs. We also own and run a Social Enterprise based in Toowoomba – KBH Enterprises. We employ people with individual support needs in a woodworking and furniture restoration workshop. KBH was established in 1994 and we have been providing high quality furniture restorations repairs as well as custom designed furniture for over 20 years.
